At the start of 2016 Emma Watson began a feminist book club group through Goodreads called “Our Shared Shelf”. Moderated by Emma herself as well as a handful of others, the goal is to give members of the group a suggested book each month which can then be discussed via a number of Discussion Boards devoted to that book.
A quick look at the boards for February’s book, The Color Purple by Alice Walker, will give you such topics as favorite quotes, the book vs. the movie, a book club discussion questions list, and abuse towards women.
The last book for 2016 is Maya Angelou‘s Mom & Me & Mom. This is Angelou’s final work, published a year before her death in 2013 and the first to focus on her mother, Vivian Baxter.
While Our Shared Shelf does a great job at giving its almost (at this writing) 160,000 members some books for thought, it doesn’t stop there. Other discussions to participate in are Intersectionality, Women’s and Feminist Organizations, and different ways of Meeting Up with like minded folks all over the world.
If you’re already a Goodreads member, joining is just a click away – the group is open to everyone. If you’re not a Goodreads member yet, this might just be your reason to become one.
